SAFARI

One cannot visit South Africa and not include a proper Game Safari. Therefore Immerse Yourself offer divers the best of both worlds by including a visit to the world famous Hluhluwe Game Reserve, home to Africa's BIG 5.

The Hluhluwe - Imfolozi Game Reserve, one of the largest in Southern Africa, is situated in the heart of Zululand. The park covers 96 000 hectares and is one of Africa's oldest game reserves, founded in 1895. Although this park has had more than a century of formal protection, conservation in this area has been practiced for far longer than this, as it was the exclusive hunting grounds of the Zulu kings and was consequently well protected.

Imfolozi was proclaimed to conserve the White Rhino and Hluhluwe was conserved for the large herbivores. This game reserve has eighty species of mammal and in excess of 300 species of birds. The Hluhluwe - Imfolozi is the only park under formal conservation in KwaZulu-Natal where the Big 5 occurs. The more exotic species like the African Wild dog can also be seen here, all contributing towards a rich game viewing experience.

Besides open-vehicle day game drives and night drives, Hluhluwe also offers you the chance to view game from a different angle! the umKhiwane launch is a shaded boat that offers game viewing from the Hluhluwe River - truly an amazing experience! A trip to Africa cannot exclude a visit to one of the prime game parks, of which the Hluhluwe - Imfolozi Game Reserve rates among the best, and is definitely highly recommended.
